According to UNAIDS, close to 30 million people have been living with HIV in 2005; 3 million died from it during that year with 4 million newly infected. This is something I've always felt strongly about, which led me to write a song about it, 'Positive'.
But this time I would like to do more. Which is why I'm launching "Indie music against AIDS". The idea is quite simple: bring together independant musicians to produce a compilation of songs inspired by AIDS. On World AIDS Day 2006 (that is December 1st), people will be able to download all the tracks for free; in return they will be encouraged to make a donation to an AIDS-fighting charity of their choice. All the details are available on MySpace here.
Over the next few weeks, I will try to recruit musicians to help me in this project on platforms such as GarageBand, ArtistShare and so on. Feel free to give a hand by forwarding this post to anybody you can think of (including Bono).
Let's make music count !
