As everybody knows (or should know) World Aid's Day took place last Friday and it is the opportunity to review what happened since I launched the idea of the 'Indie Music against AIDS' compilation last summer. Well, I'm afraid the answer to the question is 'not very much' !
At the beginning, everything went according to plans: I went on creating a page on myspace here with a very nice logo you can see on the right side of this post. The page generated quite a lot of viewing although not many artists offered to take part - with the notable exception of Woodstock Taylor here.
Generating any kind of buzz proved to be more difficult. People at World AIDS Campaign turned down my suggestion of any kind of endorsement and my efforts to recruit independant musicians into the project did not come to much in the end (apart from sparking a long - and from time to time mildly amusing - debate on the Sonicgarden forum).
Still, I believe the idea has got legs; give me a bit more time to think over plan B and I will certainly have another go in the future. And in the meantime, I'll keep supporting the fight against AIDS the "easy way" by making a donation ...
