We are by now more than halfway through the Beijing Olympics and the real question is what will happen to Tibet afterwards. You can expect that once the games are finished, repression will fall heavily on the Tibetans while world leaders go back to their long standing position: "of course China should give more freedom to Tibetans (to speak up their minds, use their own language and practise their religion for a start) but putting pressure on the Chinese government on a matter of internal affairs would be counter-productive". Or put more clearly: China is far too big and we are all too keen to continue doing business with it.
In the meantime, the XIVth Dalai-Lama is in France, in Nantes, for a week of teachings and meditations. I have been planning to take part at least in the public conference and blessings on the 15th but preparing the move to Singapore has taken all my time. Maybe when I'm in Asia, I will have more chance to see the man ?
