30/04/2009: AND THE WINNER IS ... FRANZ FERDINAND COMING TO ZEROCAST

VotingApologies to all of you Hot Chip lovers but you will still have to be a bit patient: FRANZ FERDINAND won with a whopping 62.1% and will be the feature band in the next ZEROCAST ULTIMATE REMIX COMPILATION.

I'm currently digging up all these great Franz Ferdinand remixes from the digital vault: you can get a sneak preview (prehearing ? it sounds like something which Patty Hewes would want to get involved in but after all, the lady has a right to like Franz Ferdinand) at  Baron Zero Last.fm page.

Now I only need to go through these 500 Ulysses remixes ...

28/04/2009: ONE MINUTE REVIEW "KELLEY POLLAR @ HOUSE DISCOPARK"

KelleypolarliveThe concert of KELLEY POLAR at House on Dempsey Hill last Saturday could not have been more different  from the KAISER CHIEFS which I saw 2 weeks ago. 

To be honnest I expected 'nu disco' to sound at the same time more new and more disco (not much glitz and glam in the end). This being said, and although I don't think this will remain as the best bit of songwriting I have ever seen, some of the songs were definitely worth a good boogie, helped by an excellent bass player ("Atmosphere" as closing song).

A word on the place: small room. small crowd which was nice with lots of place to dance. And plenty more space outdoor to relax under the palmtrees.

So let's see: RADIOHEAD, check. BLOC PARTY, check. What was the other bands on my list to feature in the next ZEROCAST ULTIMATE REMIX COMPILATION ?

What about Franz Ferdinand and Hot Chip ? Sounds good but why don't you pick the order ...

25/04/2009: WHY IT IS A GOOD IDEA FOR YOUR BAND TO GET MIXED UP (PART 3)

FunkysadamIf you have read the 2 previous posts I wrote on the subject (part 1 and part 2), you should be convinced by now that getting your tracks remixed is a damn good idea.

Now where do your start when JUSTICE (who just remixed the latest U2 single - coming soon on Zerocast) or SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO (back on form with a great remix of Deerhunter) are too busy to return your calls ?

Here are a few sites to check out

  • CCMixter - the community remix site sponsored by Creative Common is probably the most established. You will obviously need to licence your tracks under CC and you might have to put (some) money on the table to get people started.
  • RemixFight - register, ask nicely and there is a good chance that MC Jack in the Box and his friends will be more than happy to mix things up for you. They had a go some time ago at remixing POSITIVE and I will be posting soon some of the results.
  • Jamglue and SpliceMusic - I haven't tried any of them yet so feel free to feedback if you have.
  • Indaba Music - although it is no per se a remix site but focuses on online music collaboration, there are plenty of people who would be more than able and probably happy to help you. Indaba is my favourite (you will find me there looking sultry having a smoke - very French).
  • Le Blog du Baron - and of course, what prevents you from contacting directly some of the remixers regularly featured in ZEROCAST ? Chance is that if you like what they do, they will like to hear it and who knows, they might be up to lend you a hand.

24/04/2009: NO TIME FOR THE TAJ MAHAL BUT A WALK ON THE BEACH

Unfortunately I have just finished with all my meetings and it doesn't look like I will be able to pay a visit to the TAJ MAHAL this time. I'm staying up north near JUHU BEACH and knowing the usual traffic in Mumbai it will take me a good hour to reach the center of town and probably more to get to the airport. A shame since the staff at the Taj Mahal were expeting me but it will have to be for another time.

But I got to take a long walk down the famous Juhu Beach yesterday evening (I'm still looking down over it right now). And relaxed for a while in the magnificent swimming-pool of the Marriot hotel. Hope the picture below will give you a feel for what's it like to be at Juhu along with a few thousands Bombaites on a busy Thursday evening.

22/04/2009: FINALLY BACK TO THE TAJ MAHAL IN MUMBAI

TajmahalhotelI'm flying back to India tonight, for the first time since I got caught in the Mumbai terror attack. Mixed feelings ... Overall I'm very happy and excited to go back to one of my favourite cities but also quite unsure how I will react once I'm there.

All the more that I have been invited a few months ago by the General Manager of the TAJ MAHAL and I intend to pay a visit to the hotel. This will be strange sitting again by the swimming pool (if this part of the hotel has been reopened which I'm not entirely sure of).

Maybe I will finally get to finish this beer I left on the table last November !

Of course I'm still far behind the likes of   Britney Spears (11,066,222 followers), Barack Obama (914,168), Coldplay   (602,990) or even more modestly Brad Sucks (880) so no reason to throw a  party yet.
