Call it the wonders of the digital age ! Today I had the opportunity to spend 30 minutes on Skype talking to world class producer from LA; no name at that stage but suffice to say that he developed and produced a band which went on to sell more than 60 million albums worldwide and played a key role in inventing nu metal along the way.
Although the conversation was (too) short, he gave me unvaluable insight on my songs but also inspirations as to which musical directions I could be taking in the future. And he also pretty much invited me to come to LA next January to work with him on a few songs.
Which got me to think seriously about what is the price I'd be ready to put on my dreams.
Flying to LA and producing these tracks would probably cost me at least 30,000 $ for recording (including studio time and musicians) and mixing. Quite a lot of money especially when you don't really have it.
But also quite cheap for having a shot at your dreams. And let's be honnest, going into a LA studio to record some of my songs and having the chance to work with an A-list producer would go down as one of the highlights of my life ... whatever happens afterwards.
I guess you can say it is time to put the money where my mouth is. But I might have to sell the car first !
