It is exactly 3 years today that we arrived on the very first day of our Asian adventures. And it would have been the last day of my contract there if I hadn't resigned at the end of last year.
I remember the first days in Singapore as if they took place last week. We had missed our connecting flight in Francfort and ended up taking a daytime flight to Singapore rather than flying overnight. Which does not sound like much unless you have to spend 12 hours running after a 2 year old boy who thinks going up and down a Boing 747 is a great way to spend the day !
Maybe we should have seen this as a foresign of the tumultuous times to come: a new job, the endless trips to Shanghai and Mumbai, the "fire at the Taj", the weekends in Bangkok and Saigon, several Lion dances, some holidays on Koh-Samui and Bali, my first solo gigs and of course the arrival of the little Indian princess.
All in all a time full of great times with great people. This is probably what I still miss the most from Asia. The food is fab and so many places are mesmerising.
But the real treasure of Asia are its people. This is what I found out during the little time I spent on the little island and it made a big change in my life.
