I'm generally wary of anyone with a crystal ball who pretends to know what the future of music will be like.
But I will make an exception in this case since the report THINGS TO WATCH: MUSIC EDITION has been put together by J. WALTER THOMPSON (with whom I worked several times over the years).
In a new study, they concluded that in 2011 "we got a clearer glimpse of what the second decade of digital music will look like - and it’s quite different from the first in many ways."
Probably the most insightful and comprehensive review I have seen of changes to come (many of them already visible as of today). Very, very strongly recommended reading (scrap that, make it "mandatory reading") for every musician.
